Sue Henderson

Biography

Sue Henderson graduated in Fine Art at Reading University, specialising in lithography and typographic design. Having acquired a small Albion relief press, she produced linocuts and wood engravings as greetings cards for a number of years.

In 1980 she helped to establish a group print and pottery workshop in Macclesfield, where she installed an etching press and ran classes. She now works entirely from her home studio, where she specialises in etching and continues to run small classes. She is a member of the Printmakers Council, with which she frequently shows in venues all over the country. One of these was an exchange exhibition with printmakers from Western Australia, which took place both in Southampton and Fremantle to coincide with the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race.

Her work is available in a number of galleries across the country and has sold to private collectors in Europe, America and Australia.

Statement

‘Etching, with its unpredictable nature and seemingly endless possibilities, remains my principal interest; from time to time, however, I like to return to relief printing and the gouging out of lino or the more finely controlled cutting and the sharper definition of the wood engraving process.’
