The series of paintings exhibited are based on a visit to Rome, during my visit I was interested in the traces of history rediscovered and resurrected to lie beside the modern day city. I became fascinated by the windows of a contemporary building that held reflections of the ancient city. This juxtaposition allowed me to explore light and trace through painting. I was also inspired by the surfaces of walls that held traces of patterns and history. I wanted to explore the combinations of subtle colour and textures, with images of ancient architecture and sculpture to create a sense of time and place.
