Cheviot Landscape by John Sprakes

John Sprakes, Long Eaton:

Many of John’s paintings have been inspired by the landscape along Hadrian’s Wall, Northumberland. This stretch of dramatic landscape starts at Wallsend in Newcastle to Bo’ness on the Cumbrian coast. The Norfolk and Suffolk coast has also been a source of inspiration to John and feature prominently in his work.

John has exhibited widely in solo and mixed shows across the UK. His recent awards include The Le Clerc Fowle Gold Medal (ROI) and Manchester Academy Prize. John’s paintings are in private and public collections in the UK, Europe and USA.

John says:

“Drawing is important in my investigation into the seen and natural world. It is a starting point for my ideas.”
