Beyond the Tree: New solo exhibition by Anthony Ratcliffe

Anthony‘s  solo exhibition ‘Beyond the Tree’ is due to open this summer from 24 July to 30 August 2021. The exhibition was postponed from last year and on display at The North York Moors Centre gallery in Danby.

Anthony was invited to create a solo exhibition of prints after showing work previously at the National Park Centre Gallery. The brief was to link with a general exhibition running at the same time called ‘Woodlife’. This original show was planned to open in the ‘Year of the Tree’ in 2020.

The artist has made a series of woodcut prints looking at the identity of tree forms in the North York Moors at different seasons of the year, he has tried to combine a personal exploration of areas well known to him where the landscape is dominated  or influenced by the structure of woods, individual trees and manicured hedgerows .

All the prints are created from drawings and are records of particular places on the moors and coast at different times of the year. They contain personal observations of the way tree forms blend into historical industrial sites, coastal paths, geological features and well known landmarks. Each multicoloured print is made from two wood blocks and printed by the artist in small signed editions.

Check out the website for opening times and to plan your visit. You can also download the exhibition poster (opens PDF in new tab).
