All the Best

30 October 2021 – 20 November 2021

Dean Clough Gallery

This exhibition featured all the best works by members of MAFA. From sculptures to prints and oil paintings see what our artists have been working on recently. The Crossley Gallery, where MAFA is holding their exhibition, is one of the largest contemporary arts spaces in Yorkshire. Dean Clough devotes up to nine of its public spaces to a rolling programme of gallery exhibitions that reflect contemporary art practice in the North of England.

Art of the Everyday

18 May 2021 – 26 June 2021

Gallery Oldham

In some ways this exhibition was about noticing the details which we may have taken for granted before. It also documented a new way of living, for example the ideas of home schooling or keeping in touch with family via video calling instead of being in the same space to share laughter and hugs. Some artists used daily walks as an opportunity to develop their drawing skills and capture the landscape around them, others captured activities that helped their mental wellbeing – cooking, sitting in the garden or escaping to a bath.

You can download the exhibition catalogue here, and watch this short interview with MAFA President Malcolm Taylor and exhibition organiser and Vice President of MAFA Kath Lowe as they chat to us about how the exhibition came about and the history of MAFA.

Small Works

30 November 2019 – 2 February 2020

The Whitaker, Rossendale.

Our Christmas exhibition this year is a group show by The Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. Running from 30th November 2019 to 2 February 2020, this is a chance to see some of the best artists working in the North West together in one room.

The Academy began life in 1859 and has been contributing to the cultural life of Manchester and Lancashire ever since. Its members have created murals and designed public sculptures that appear across the city, and classes run by the academy have inspired some of the best including L.S. Lowry. Today, its number include painters, printmakers and sculptors whose work appears in both public and private collections across the region, country and further afield.
