Summer Exhibition: Julia Midgley

Flights of Fancy by Julia Midgely featuring Viking longboat and Viking warriors.

MAFA artist Julia Midgley will be showing a selection of her original prints, etchings and mono prints together with some of the original studies, at a group exhibition in Saul Hay Gallery’s Summer Exhibition, Manchester. The exhibition opened on the 7th July 2021 and will continue until September.

This exciting collection of painting, sculpture, photography and printmaking also includes artists: Peter Clossick, Lois Wallace, Kevin John Pocock, Suzanne Bethell and Ian Livesey.

The Saul Hay Gallery is in a beuutifully converted small industrial Victorian building and is nestled by the canal in Castlefield. There are plenty of of bars and cafes nearby. It’s a hidden treasure and this 2 minute film will help you find the Gallery.

Julia describes her work, ‘My practice revolves around drawing, etching extends that practice. Larger developed works on paper refer to sketchbook records; ancient sculpture; eccentric characters from paintings, folk art; and horses. These works are sometimes metaphorical and sometimes autobiographical. Influences- Goya, George Grosz, Ana Maria Pacheco, Paula Rego. Documentary drawing/reportage is a major activity.’
