Jane Burgess was recently asked by the editor of ‘The Artist’ magazine to write an article describing her use of different media for different situations. The article titled ‘Watercolour or Oil?’ appears in the February 2024 edition.
Jane describes her use of watercolours and oils demonstrating how her paintings are developed. The article includes tips on her methods of working outdoors and the equipment and materials she uses.
Her watercolours are developed entirely in her studio, using photographs and sketches for reference. In contrast, she paints small oils ‘en plein air’ in one sitting, sometimes adding final touches in the studio, as in the image below.
