Statement

‘In my painting, I am concerned with creating an equivalent of the sensations experienced when in contact with nature, with its underlying energies and rhythms.’

‘At the core of my painting practice is a deep connection with a particular landscape – that of the Dark Peak area of Derbyshire, where I lived for many years. The colours, textures and forms of this area of rugged and dramatic scenery continue to emerge in the work.’

‘I have an intuitive approach and use a combination of media, together with a variety of techniques. The complex surfaces are built up in layers, resulting in an evocation of natural forms and elemental forces.’
