Brill, Linda

Painting of Magnolia Blossom by Linda Brill

Statement

Still Life: My aim is to capture the material qualities of objects, the differing textures, the play of light. My work celebrates both the stillness and the life of things, organic or man-made and is both meditative and contemplative. There is beauty to be found in the everyday.

Biography

I was born in the Welsh Valleys and moved to Yorkshire in 1984. I studied at Bath Academy of Arts and Cardiff Art College. I am a gallery artist at Water Street Gallery in Todmorden and have had a number of solo exhibitions as well as taking part in various group shows. My work is in private collections in Great Britain, Europe and America. I work mainly in oil on board but also in charcoal. My work is tonal rather than linear –  subtle shifts of light and dark. I tend to explore places in charcoal and things in paint – but both are interchangeable.
