David Sprakes Nottingham
I work in both figurative and abstract forms of expression. The historical influences on my work stem from First and Second Generation twentieth century British sculpture and the sculpture of Constantin Brancusi. My ideas develop from a range of visual sources such as archeological forms, the landscape, and inanimate objects. Much of my recent work is in bronze, investigating form and surface, and latterly in acrylic block where carving and engraving have been the predominant techniques.
Research and drawing play pivotal roles in the development of my sculpture. Relief and mixed media drawings, with plaster masters, clarify and resolve my bronzes. Sculptures and flatwork are in private collections in London, the Home Counties, and the Midland and Northern regions of England.
