MAFA member and past President Gerry Halpin has been named as Manc of the month in January 2020 by Cotton On MCR. Cotton On was set up in 2017 to help promote Manchester’s ever-changing art scene listing current & future exhibitions and creative events to help people find out what’s on and where.
In the article Cotton On applaud Gerry for quitting the day job to become a full-time professional artist. Attention is drawn to his talent, hardwork and beautiful paintings. Interviewing Gerry about his artistic practices and artwork, he speaks about the highlights of his career so far:
‘Undoubtedly being appointed MBE in the New Year Honours 2009 for contributions to Art and Charity. Being elected President of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts in 2015 was both an honour and a privilege, giving me an opportunity to make a contribution to the future development of a city art institution first founded in 1858 and still thriving with 123 elected Members.’
