MAFA President 2009 – 2015
John McCombs was born in Manchester in 1943. After attending the city’s High School of Art he studied at St Martin’s College of Art in London under Gore and Kossoff. In 1966 he won the David Murray Scholarship awarded by the Royal Academy. Following a post graduate year he returned north and settled in Saddleworth as a professional artist with a gallery and studio. His landscape and figure paintings are also exhibited in London where he is a member of both the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of British Artists.
Since being elected a member of MAFA in 1975 he has served on council and on selection and hanging committees. As President he organised members’ exhibitions throughout the North West.
