MAFA President 1951-1960
John Gauld was a portrait, landscape and mural painter and he also produced lithographic prints. Born in Gateshead, he lived for a number of years in London and studied at the Royal College of Art. He moved north to Huddersfield in 1920 and eventually settling in Bolton in 1932. He was a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, and became president in 1951.
