Tom Mostyn was born in Liverpool, son of Edwin Mostyn – an artist. Raised in Manchester, he studied at the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, where he won first prize for life drawing, and under Sir Hubert Von Herkomer at Bushey.
He is generally known for his romantic garden scenes and was strongly influenced by his teacher. Tom exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1891 and abroad in the Paris Salon and Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh. After the First World War he moved from London to Devon and began painting enchanted garden scenes for which he would become well-known.
